Favourite music videos and why

The 1975-Robbers

What I like about this video is the narrative, the lead singer (Matt Healy) acts out the lyrics creating a meaning, this gives the video a dramatic effect and the song becomes real. I like the range of cinematography shown, such high angles and hand held camera work, hand held is used frequently and gives this video a documentary style as if you are there following around these two people who are in love. The whole video shows how they stick together, through thick and thin. There is also a live performance featured in the video aswell as lip sync, I like this variety and it makes it more interesting to view when there are different shots, mise en scne( such as a skate park, cafe,a house,in a van.) Also, there is a change in costume as well which makes it different to look at.

Duke Dumont- I got U

I find this video unique, I like how throughout a p.o.v shot is used, this creates the impression that you are the person in the video and this is what you are seeing, i also like the variation of locations and the mise en scene is very interesting, the topical theme will draw in the aduciene because it makes us envious, the number of different scenes adds to the interest and keeps the audience interested. The angles and cinematography are very good in this video, one second we are on a tropcial beach, the next we are on an elephant, the edits also go to the beat of the music so its easy to watch and listen to.The shaky camera work when on the elephant adds to the realism this video creates.

Rihanna-S&M

This Rihanna video has lots of different costume and hair changes, this will attract the female audience as they like to look at Rihanna as someone to get inspiration from, changing up the clothing also keeps the viewer interested. When artists look into the camera it is as if they have direct eye contact with the viewer therefore contecting with the audience. The camerawork changes up the video adding different angles making the video more exciting, the fast pace editing also fits in with the upbeat fast song, this intensifies the whole video giving a crazy, fun effect which reflects Rihanna's personality.

Katy Perry-California Gurls

In this Katy Perry video, i like the use of green screen and the bright colours connote to the upbeatness of the song, i like the mise en scene and the fun costumes she wears this targets to teenage girls, the lolly pops in the mise en scene and the fake walking gummy bears are a good use of special effects which makes this video unquie, in terms of the narrative Katy's video talks about California Gurls, the video is unreal yet the way the lyrics fit with the video makes it seem real.
