Music video-edit2

This is my second edit. I haven't finished the full song yet because the weather affected my filming time and I couldn't film as much as I would have liked, but when I put the footage together and edited I found that to improve  I should have taken shots moving the camera around, using track, pan and handheld camera work as a variety instead of all the same shots (close ups).

Filming day 2

Today I am filming the second draft of my music video, I can already see I am facing some problems. The weather is snowing this means it will not match up to my previous filming and could mean filming time is cut short due to being outside for a long period of time in the snow.
I am aiming to film the rest of my video today, I have about 3.00 minutes to film but I have planned out locations and the cinematography so I am hoping it will all come together.

I have just finished filming, I filmed for about an hour and due to the weather we had to stop because it was too cold to carry on and get good shots.
Although I thought that the snow would be a problem it turned out to not be a problem and actually helped me due to the lyric 'buried in the snow'. I will go out and film again and this time get a variety of shots.

mock music video draft 1

This is the first edit of my music video, so far I have only filmed certain areas of the music video. When filming I found I had to take shots multiple times so it was more time consuming than I thought to get it perfect. I also found that some shots went better than expected, the light is some shots was really good and I didn't expect to get the effect I did with light hitting trees and certain parts of my models face.

Filming day 1 complications

Today, I did the first part of filming for my music video, the complications I came across were simple things, such as the camera not focusing on my model when I zoomed it this also effected the positioning of the tripod as I had to come closer to the model meaning the tripod wasn't high enough to get the right close up I wanted. The weather, when I went out to film it had started to rain therefore affecting the filming as part of it was for my model to lay down. Another problem was that because it had started to get dark earlier than expected I couldn't carry on filming because I couldn't get a sharp focus on the camera.

To overcome these problems for next time I should take a look at the camera before hand to ensure I know how to get a clear focus, I should also film earlier in the day to make my filming time longer.

Applying narrative theory to existing music videos

Sam Smith- I'm not the only one

This music video is about a married couple, a wife who stays home and looks after her husband, meanwhile, while her husband claims to go to work he is really seeing another woman. His wife knows what he is doing but can't bear to tell him she knows about the affair. Throughout this narrative we can see how  she puts on a brave face pretending all is well.

Tim O'sullivan says that all media tells a story through mediation, the way camera angles are shot and how the narrative is shown. Media texts offer a way of telling stories about ourselves. The story is of us as a culture representing the human condition consequently this video represents cheating which is a human experience. In this case the story is about an affair.

The use of mise en scene shows this woman (the wife) waving off her husband to work, when really he is going to see another woman. The use of camera angles shows this medium close up of the woman but we can see her husbands car in the background, then the shot changes and we see her expression revieling to the audience her emotions portraying sadness and shock.
By the expression on her face we can tell she looks heartbroken and she is putting on a front, as Kate Domaille says, every story can be fitted into one of the eight narrative types, this video fits into the Tristan&Iseult- love triangle genre, this is becasue there is another woman involved in their relationship.

This video is relatable to the pop/soul target audience, the song is about heartbreak which is a common theme in the pop industry, heartbreak is something the audience can/might have experienced and will understand when they watch this video.
